Vice Chancellor Laid the Foundation Stones of Extention Buildings




ALIGARH, January 18: The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Professor P.K. Abdul Azis, today laid the foundation stone of the construction of classrooms and extension of library building at the Department of Islamic Studies with a cost of rupees 74.70 lakhs. The construction work includes one library hall, two classrooms and two toilets.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor P.K. Abdul Azis today also laid the foundation stone of the extension of Faculty of Social Sciences building with an initial cost of rupees 200 lakhs. The construction work will be completed in the month of November 2010.

The construction work of the Faculty of Social Sciences included one committee room, one hall, one seminar hall, one chairman room, five tutorial rooms and one office.

The building is single storeyed RCC framed structure with structural provision to construct three additional storyes in future.

Addressing the foundation stone ceremony, AMU VC Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis said that for the first time in the history of the University, UGC has sanctioned Rs. 184 crore under the General Development Grant for XI Plan. He said that AMU stands for learning and research and urged the students and faculty members to maintain tranquility and peace at every cost.

Prof. Azis said that new special centers at Mallapuram and Murshidabad will be established very soon and Bihar Government has also allotted 250 acres of land for AMU Special Centre at Kishanganj. He disclosed that Assam Chief Minister has also urged the AMU to establish a new campus.

AMU Registrar, Prof. V.K. Abdul Jaleel, Controller, Prof. Pervaiz Mustajab, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. CPS Chauhan, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. Maria Bilquis also addressed the foundation stone ceremony.

Earlier, Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis also laid the foundation stone of the University students Canteen with a cost of Rs. 149.06 lakhs. This project will be completed by May 2010.
