ALIGARH: Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday assured medical students of AMU that he would initiate "appropiate action" on their claim of irregularities in the admission tests conducted for post-graduate seats in the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College under the university.

Azad gave this verbal assurance after he was he was accosted by students while he was on a surprise check at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical college on Thursday.

Azad was visiting the Aligarh Muslim University at the invitation of the university staff association when he suddently decided to pay a "surprise visit" to the JN medical college.

The students got a whiff of his visit and blocked his way while he was coming out of the medical college building.

When contacted a senior official of AMU said a three member inquiry committee had already been instituted into the allegation raised by some students and it was expected to submit its reports within a day or two. He added that action would be taken on the basis of this report.
