Press Note by the Vice-Chancellor: Student's Union to be restored by 26th January, 2011

ALIGARH October 26: The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis today expressed his great indignation at the way political leaders and workers are visiting the AMU vitiating the academic environment in the University campus.

He appreciated that the student community of AMU for understanding the situation and for remaining focused in their studies. He urged that they should also ask the agitating students to withdraw their dharna.

Prof. Azis said that the University has already announced that the AMU Students’ Union will be restored by 26th January 2011 and this assurance might be given in writing as well.

AMU Vice Chancellor once again urged the agitating students to withdraw Dharna.

An Urge by the Teacher's Community: Let the VC enter his lodge:

ALIGARH, October 26: More than a dozen teachers of Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University, in a letter written to District Magistrate, Aligarh, appealed to take necessary steps facilitating the safe return of the AMU Vice-Chancellor Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis to his lodge as well as to his workplace, so that he may perform his duties peacefully and effectively.

The signatories of the letter said that the AMU Vice-Chancellor has been wrongfully restrained to enter into his lodge by a group of students staging Dharna in front of his lodge, as a result of which he is staying at the Exhibition Guest House out of campus on the advice of the district administration, which is humiliating to him and to the AMU academic community also. This wrongful restraint is the violation of his personal liberty and basic freedom which any citizen of India enjoys on the strength of his fundamental rights. The letter urged the district administration to secure the Vice Chancellor his official residence and ensure that he discharges his official obligations without any hindrances.

The Vice Chancellor has already assured the agitating students that the AMU Students Union will be restored but they are not paying heed. There is no justification for these students to continue Dharna.

The signatories of the letter include Prof. M. Shabbir, Dean Faculty of Law, Prof. Saleem Akhtar, Dr. Nafees Ahmad, Dr. M. Waseem Ali, Mr. Hashmat Ali Khan, Dr. M. Kaleemullah, Dr. Mohd. Ashraf, Dr. Zafar A. Khan, Dr. Shakeel Samdani, Mr. Eqbal Hadi, Dr. Zaheeruddin, Dr. Zubair Ahmad Khan, Mr. Salil Kumar, Dr. Ishrat Husain and Mr. Zakiuddin Khairuwala from the Department of Law.

  1. The act of restraining Vice Chancellor from entering the VC lodge without using any force is intune with the VC's order to keep the students NRSC upon petty issues.
VC KO NRSC KAR DIYA. WOW......
