AMU students won 4th prize in the national competition "Smart Car Race India ­2010"

ALIGARH, October 21: Mohammad Zaid and Arjun Jauhari, students of B.Tech. (Electronics) final year, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University have won 4th prize in the national level competition "Smart Car Race India ­2010" organized by Freescale Semiconductor India, in collaboration with the Centre for Electronic Design and Technology (CEDT) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). It was the first of its kind competition organized for engineering students in India. The two-day event was part of a series of such competitions that were organized by Freescale around the world and is being brought to India for the first time.


'Smart Car Race India - 2010' received an overwhelming response from the student fraternity from engineering colleges across India, with participation from 22 renowned colleges and more than 90 teams.

Approximately 290 engineering students, along with their faculty guides, participated in the competition. During the competition, students assembled an intelligent racing car that automatically recognized the specially designed racing track at the final competition venue. The finalist were selected based on their two round performances on the basis of the lap time taken, efficiency of algorithm, as well as the hardware inspection of car. After two days rigorous evaluation by judges, our college team 'Zealous' was selected as 4th prize winner and received prize money of Rs. 10,000.

Mohammad Zaid and Arjun Jauhari, under the supervision of Prof. Ekram Khan and Prof. M. Hasan of Electronics Engineering Department participated in the event. Mr. Andy Mastronardi, the Worldwide Director of Freescale University Program, Ganesh Guruswamy, the Vice President and Country Manager of Freescale Semiconductor India Pvt. Ltd. and Prof. K. Gopakumar, the Chairman, CEDT, IISc Bangalore gave away the prizes to the winners.
