National Symposium of Muslim Association for the Advancement of Science, MAASCON-1 held

ALIGARH, October 26: The National Symposium of Muslim Association for the Advancement of Science, MAASCON-1 on “Frontiers in Life Sciences: Basic and Applied” was inaugurated by Dr V. M. Katoch, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi at the Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University. Dr M. K. J. Siddiqui, Director, Council of Science and Technology, Lucknow and Prof. Abdul Qayyum Siddiqui were the guests of honour.





While addressing the inaugural function of the symposium, Dr. Katoch emphasized on the cutting-edge research for the genome analysis and praised the achievement of the youngsters of department and the faculty members.



Dr M. K. J Siddique pointed out the effects of pesticide on pregnant women. The concentration of the pesticide was more in the blood of the pregnant women than the blood of the foetus. This leads to the growth in retardation of the foetus.



Prof. Asif Ali Khan, Organizing Chairman of the Symposium highlighted the achievements of young researchers and faculty members of the department.



Dr. Yasir Hasan Siddique, Organizing Secretary thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis for granting permission to organize the National Symposium in the Department of Zoology, AMU, Aligarh. He acknowledged the help and support of the Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi, Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi, Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi and Aligarh Muslim University for providing financial support in the organization of the Symposium. He also thanked Prof. Asif Ali Khan, Chairman of the Department of Zoology and Dean Faculty of Life Sciences for being instrumental and suggesting every step and guidance since the beginning of the program. Dr. Siddique also thanked the officials of the registrar office for the support in the matter related to the funds.



Prof. Rajendra Prasad of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Prof. Kaiser Jamil, of Hyderabad, Prof. Qamar Rahman, Visiting Professor of Rostock University, Germany, Dr. Sarwat Sultana, of Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi, Prof. Mohammad Afzal, of Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. Rohtash Chand Gupta, Chairman and Professor of Zoology, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Haryana, Prof. Qudsia Tahseen of Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University and Dr. Asad U. Khan of Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University delivered lectures on the topics related to the theme of the Symposium.

The symposium was concluded with the Award ceremony for the Best Oral Presentation. Ms. Ritu Palliwal of Banasthali, Rajasthan stood first in the oral presentation. Dr. Sarfaraz-ul-Haq, Malaria Research Centre, Civil Hospital, Nadiad, Gujrat stood Second while Dr. Mehavish Haider and Dr. Ayesha Ahmad of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU secured third in the oral presentation. The awards were given away by Prof. R.C. Gupta, Prof. Qamar Rahman and Prof. Asif Ali Khan. Prof. Iqbal Parwez proposed a vote of thanks. Prof. Mohammad Afzal conducted the programme.
