ALIGARH, July 14: A workshop on “Infant and young child feeding practices and promotion of consumption of iodized salt” was organized in the department of Community Medicine, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. This workshop was conducted under the Child Health and Nutrition Months (BSPM Scheme) of UNICEF. Prof. M. Asharaf Malik, Principal & Chief Medical Superintendent, J.N. Medical College and Hospital inaugurated the workshop. He appreciated the effort of the department for communication change behaviour in the community. He also stressed the need to carry out investigation to find out adverse effects of fluorosis and arsenic contamination of water.
Prof. Zulfia Khan discussed the objective of holding this workshop. Dr. M. Athar Ansari, Chairman, Department of Community Medicine and Nodal Person of BSPM Scheme highlighted the achievement of department in the implementation of BSPM Scheme in Sitapur, Lakhimpur and Aligarh.
Prof. Najam Khalique, Medical Superintendent congratulated the staff members of the department for their active participation in the project. Medical Social Workers, Vaccinators, ANM of the department, health workers of AMU-UNICEF Health Clinics were invited for the training in this workshop. They have been asked to strengthen the infant and young child feeding practices and promotion of consumption of iodized salt in their respective field areas. Dr. Zulfia Khan, Dr. M. Athar Ansari, Dr. Suboohi Afzal and Dr. Saira Mehnaz spoke on various topics of breastfeeding and iodized salt.
Mr. Shafeeque Ahmad, DUC, UNICEF, Dr. Ali Amir, Dr. A.R. Siddiqui, Dr. Iqbal M. Khan, Dr. Salman Khalil, Dr. Anees Ahmad, Dr. Arshiya Masood and all SRs, JRs, and non-teaching staff members attended the programme. Dr. Sakeena Mushfiq compared the programme and Dr. M. Salman Shah presented vote of thanks.
