ALIGARH July 31: Mr. Rashad Hussain, the United States’ Special Envoy to Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) is visiting the Aligarh Muslim University on August 1-2, 2010.
His appointment as Special Envoy by US President Barrack Obama last February was a part of the US Government’s fresh initiative to deepen and expand its relationship with OIC, an inter-governmental body of 56 Muslim countries.
The purpose of his visit to AMU is to discuss his position as part of the US government’s effort to engage Muslims around the world on a people to people and organizational level. He would address faculty members of the University on August 2. This will be followed by an interactive session with students.
Mr. Rashad’s mother Dr. Ruqayya Hussain is a product of the Aligarh Muslim University. She did her medical graduation from AMU. His father is a retired mining engineer from Bihar. He has family roots in Aligarh, Gorakhpur and Patna.
He will also pay tribute to the founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan by laying flower chadar at his grave.
