Three-day International Conference on Contribution of India and Indian Sub-continent in Irani Language and Literature held by the Department of Persian

ALIGARH November 16: The Ambassador of Afghanistan to India, Mr. Samim Hamraz inaugurated three-day International Conference on Contribution of India and Indian Sub-continent in Irani Language and Literature held by the Department of Persian, Aligarh Muslim University.



In his inaugural lecture, Mr. Hamraz while appreciating India’s contribution to Persian language spanning over 800 years underlined the important contributions made by eminent Persian scholars like Prof. Nazeer Ahmad, Prof. Amir Hasan Abidi, Prof. Abdul Wadood Azhar and Prof. Azarmi Dukht Safavi etc. He said that Embassy of Afghanistan in India will continue its efforts for the development of Persian language.

The Director of Iran Culture House in India, Dr. Ali Dahgai and Cultural and Educational Consultant of Afghanistan, Prof. Abdul Khaliq recalled old relations between India, Afghanistan and Iran.

In his keynote address, Secretary of All India Persian Teacher’s Association, Prof. Abdul Wadood Azhar discussed use of the Persian language in the different departments in Indian. Prof. Qazi Afzal Husain, Dean, Arts Faculty also expressed his views on the issue.

Earlier, Director of Persian Research Center, Prof. Azarmi Dukht Safavi welcomed the guests. She elaborated on the development and progress of Persian language and literature from Ghaznavi period to present times.

Chairman of the Persian Department, Prof. Mohd. Asif Naim Siddiqui highlighted the aim of the seminar. He also read out presidential address of former Pro-Chancellor Nawab Rahmatullah Khan Sherwani in his absence. The programme was conducted by Dr. Mohd. Usman Ghani.
