J. N. Medical College Blood Bank Ranked Number 1 in UP

ALIGARH December 7: The Blood Bank and Blood Component Separation Unit of
J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University has been ranked number one
in the State of Uttar Pradesh.
The Director General of U.P.S.A.C. Blood Bank
Division has informed the Principal and Chief Medical Superintendent,
Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Prof. M. Ashraf Malik that the ranking has
been made on the basis of performance index on a scale of 0 to 5 where J.N.
Medical College Hospital Blood Bank has achieved the performance index of
4.7 in different categories. The categories are (1) Procurement and storage
of sufficient amount of Blood Units in one year (2) Number of voluntary
donation camps held during last year (3) The amount of Blood Units collected
during the Blood Camps donation.


The Director General of NACO, Mr. S.P. Goel has congratulated the
institution and has requested that these efforts should be continued as a
model for other Blood Banks in the State. Dr. Goel has also informed about
this achievement and congratulated the District Magistrate of Aligarh
regarding this.

Prof. Ashraf Malik said that the Blood Component Separation Unit of the
Blood Bank became functional after receiving the license in February 2010.
Presently, the Blood Component Separation Unit is equipped with state of the
art machinery, including two cryo-centrifuges platelet incubator and
agitator, plasma and cryo bath, plasma separator, sterile connecting device,
tube sealers, freezers (80°C and 40°C) for plasma storage, automated
gomixers and donor station. The components being produced for consumption
within the hospital as well as supply to other hospitals are (1) Packed RBC
(2) Platelets and (3) Fresh frozen plasma.
