Students’ Grievance Redressal Committee Meeting at AMU

ALIGARH August 27: AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis, while addressing the first meeting of Students’ Grievance Redressal Committee at the Conference Room of Administrative Block, said that the idea behind this exercise is to establish direct dialogue with the students and to get acquainted with their problems and solve them in speedy manner.

Prof. Azis urged the students to help maintain peace and harmony in the campus and work to add in the prestige and reputation of the University. He said that any threat to the reputation of the institution would directly affect the future of the students. He said that there was lawlessness in the University when he took charge in 2007. Murder of two students had already taken place and another was committed in September 2007 causing students’ upheaval that lead to widespread violence in the campus owing to certain criminals and students nexus. Prof. Azis said that establishment of peace and harmony in the campus was a great challenge but he succeeded in bringing peace to the campus and various effective measures were taken to create a sense of security among the students and teachers of the University. The residential facilities were secured from any onslaught by external and criminal elements.

Prof. Azis said that adequate measures have been taken to bring the benefits of ICT revolution in the University on wide range including high speed Internet enabling students and faculties to get benefitted from the great treasures of knowledge available on internet. He said that efforts are being made to transform the University classrooms into Smart Classrooms in near future.

Vice Chancellor urged the students to take maximum benefits of the literary, cultural and sports facilities made available through the General Education Centre and University Games Committee. He said that these activities need to be increased at every level of the University for the overall-development of the students. Prof. Azis urged the students to adopt the great traditions of the University and observe respects for elders and affection for the younger.

Students from faculties of arts, social science, commerce, science, theology and management participated in the meeting and aired their grievances. AMU Registrar, Prof. V. K. Abdul Jaleel, Finance Officer, Mrs. Yasmin Jalal Baig, Proctor, Prof. M. Zubair Khan and DSW, Prof. Ainul Haq Khan were also present in the meeting.
