Sir Syed Ahmad Khan International Award 2010

ALIGARH, August 21: The Aligarh Muslim University has announced its prestigious international award named after its founder, “Sir Syed Ahmad Khan International Award” for the year 2010. The award carries a cash prize of rupees five hundred thousand. This year, the award will be given in the field of Education (including promotion of education and establishment of academic institutions with a sense of inclusive social objective).

The Sir Syed Ahmad Khan International Award, has already been awarded twice since its launching in 2008. The first award was given to the eminent literary figure and educationist of Pakistan who was also recognized as the torch bearer of Sir Syed Movement in Pakistan, Mr. Zakir Ali Khan, one of the founders of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi in the field of literature. The second award was shared by eminent scientists of India, Prof. Obaid Ahmad Siddiui and Prof. S. Zahoor Qasim, both alumni of the Aligarh Muslim University for their distinguished contribution in the field of Life Sciences.

The University has invited nominations for the year 2010 from individuals, Universities, Research Centers, Government and non-Government organizations and institutions of International repute who have rendered outstanding and distinguished service in promoting education and establishment of academic institutions with a sense of inclusive social objective. The registered societies nominated for the award should be exceptionally well reputed with a continuous record of accomplishment of public service with proven credentials of establishing educational institutions of high quality.

The nominating person / Head of the Institution / Competent Authority should a send a letter adequately justifying the nomination highlighting the importance and relevance of the nominee’s/society’s work.

The award will be given on the basis of merit determined through the assessment of the nominees’ and societies’ published work and the catalogue of documents of rendering proven public services. The work will be evaluated by a jury comprising distinguished and eminent personalities.

The nomination for the award should accompany a typed resume of the nominee with a list of his/her publications along with ten original contributions of the nominee (research papers/books/monographs) on the subject. One high resolution colour photograph of the nominee (10 cm x 15 cm) is also required.

In case of societies, brief profile of the organization and tangible contribution as evident by establishment of academic institutions with a social objective in mind and in the spirit of philanthropy as against blatant commercialization (ten copies of each document). Awards and Honours received for rendering outstanding selfless services to the society and humanity and a catalogue of outstanding achievements in the last 10 years highlighting the work truly selfless and inclusive in the domain of education should also be enclosed with the application (ten copies each).

The academic institutions established by the societies/individuals to become eligible for nomination shall be recognized by the concerned agencies/ authorities (AICTE, MCI, DCI/CBSE etc.) in their respective states/countries.

The nominations must reach the office of the Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University on or before 10th September 2010. Nominations will be judged strictly on the basis of merit regardless of caste, creed, religion, gender and nationality. The name of the winner will be announced by October 10, 2010. The award will be presented on the Sir Syed Day, October 17, 2010 in the commemorative function to be held at AMU Campus.
