Dr. S.S. Ahmed, Chairman, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Z. A. Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh said that Orbital trauma is common after road traffic accidents and if its diagnosis is missed or not treated properly, it may lead to functional disability and cosmetic disfigurement. He was addressing a seminar on Advances in Orbital and periorbital trauma management held at Mumbai. The seminar was organized by Asia Pacific Division of AOCMF. The maxillofacial surgeons, plastic surgeons and ophthalmic surgeons from various parts of India participated in the seminar. The aim of the event was to make the participants aware of the current and tested treatment concepts in Cranio-maxillofacial practice in general and orbital and periorbital trauma management in particular. Dr. Ahmad said that management of orbital trauma and recent techniques of reconstruction of orbital bony skeleton, reposition of soft tissues in such injuries and restoring the function of orbital and peri-orbital tissue were discussed in this seminar.
Dr. Ahmed told that his participation in the programme would not only benefit the patients but also the postgraduate students in the department who are actively involved in the treatment of maxillofacial injuries.
