ALIGARH, October 19: The alumni of the Aligarh Muslim University Institute
of Ophthalmology, Gandhi Eye Hospital Campus, Aligarh formed the “Aligarh
Muslim University Institute of Ophthalmology Association” and its first
meeting was held at Saifi Hall of Gandhi Eye Hospital. More than fifty
delegates from outside along with the students and staff of AMU Institute of
Ophthalmology participated in the get together including Dr. Anil Tara, Dr.
Rakesh Agarwal, Dr. V.K. Gopal, Dr. Harsh Goel, Dr. Neelam Asthana Goel, Dr.
R.V. Singh and Dr. Surendra Nath from Delhi, Dr. Tahir Zadi and Dr. Mohd.
Atique from Lucknow, Dr. Renu Hazla Srivastava from Korba (M.P.) and Dr.
Lalit K. Singhal from Ghaziabad.
Prof. R.R. Sukul, Director, AMU Institute of Ophthalmology while welcoming
the guests presented an introduction of the Institute. Prof. G.P. Gupta,
Ex-Director of Institute of Ophthalmology (who did his DO way back in 1963),
Prof. R. Gogi and Prof. B.S. Goel addressed the programme. Prof. F. A.
Jilani proposed a vote of thanks.
A lecture on Diabetic Retinopathy was delivered by Dr. Ajay Arora, who was
associated with Institute as faculty member between 1989 to 1997. An
informal meeting and cultural events like jokes and poems were also
organized and the participants shared their past experience at the
Institute. The most interesting programme was a skit presented by
postgraduate students of Institute of Ophthalmology which was appreciated by
all delegates.
It was decided to organize the meeting of the association on regular basis.
The Director of Institute of Ophthalmology, Prof. R. R. Sukul was elected as
the coordinator of the Association for next two years.
