Five Member AMU Team to Meet Bihar Chief Minister Regarding AMU Center in Kishanganj

ALIGARH February 3: A five-member team led by the Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis will be visiting Patna to meet the Chief Minister of Bihar, Mr. Nitish Kumar at his office on February 4, 2010.

The visiting team will be presenting a PowerPoint presentation before the Chief Minister, ministers and other officials. The PowerPoint presentation will include a brief history of AMU and the new vision for Special Centres of the AMU to be established in West Bengal, Kerala and Bihar.

The visiting team would be expressing gratitude to the government of Bihar for giving 250 acres of land free of cost to the AMU for opening its Centre in District Kishanganj instead of Katihar as earlier approved by the University authorities.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis will also present a memento to Mr. Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar.

AMU delegation will also visit Kishanganj. Other members of team are Prof. Javed Akhtar, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Research, Prof. Saud Alam Qasmi, Dean, Faculty of Theology, Prof. N. A. K. Durrani, Department of Mass Communication and Prof. Ekram Husain, Former Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

Campus Recruitment of PRADAN

ALIGARH February 3: The Coaching & Guidance Centre, Aligarh Muslim University organized Campus Recruitment of PRADAN, a leading NGO working in the area of rural development for the final year students of Post Graduate Courses, BALLB and B. Tech. The students displayed a great interest in this endeavour as around 300 students turned up for the PPT & Written test.

Mr. Saad Hameed, Counselor at Coaching & Guidance Centre said that the company will intimate the students about the result of written test and a date for Group Discussion and Personal Interview through their respective e-mail IDs. Mr. Hameed said that more companies are approaching the Centre for campus placement and the Coaching and Guidance Centre is helping the students in finding job through campus selection till a centralized placement cell comes into existence. Coaching and Guidance Centre is also imparting placement training to the students (Resume Writing, Group Discussion & Personal Interview) to ensure greater successes.

ALIGARH February 2: Chief Minister of Delhi, Mrs. Sheila Dixit who was a chief guest on the founder’s day celebration at Women’s College of the Aligarh Muslim University described her visit to this institution a sentimental journey because of her nostalgic memories of this place.

She mentioned with great pride how she still cherishes her brief meeting with Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the founder of this College when her late husband was the Sub Divisional Magistrate of Khair in Aligarh District.

Mrs. Dixit focused on skill based learning in the institutions for female component. She appreciated Aligarh Muslim University as young and vibrant and highlighted the need to open a separate department for environment and ecology learning foreseeing challenges ahead in the world.

Mrs. Sheila Dixit said that she is the product of Delhi University but like Aligarh Muslim University for its culture and beautiful gardens and heritage buildings.

She gave awards to the meritorious students of the College. Ms. Fatima Javed of English (main) received most coveted Papa Mian Padma Bhushan Award for over all outstanding performance in academic and co-curricular activities.

In his presidential remarks, AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis said that this institution has decided to establish five special centres in different parts of the country to meet the challenging needs of the marginalized and excluded social class and would replicate the AMU model in all its Centres.

Prof. Azis said AMU means brilliant dedicated persons and we need institution builders to create a new environment.

He said that the University has made rapid progress and succeeded in providing ICT facilities to all its staff and students and created information highway in their finger tip. A Digital Resource Centre was also established at Maulana Azad Library of the University.

Earlier welcoming the guests, Prof. Bilquis Naseem Waris, Principal of the Women’s College said that on the eve of founder’s day, we also celebrate the achievements of the young minds today.

She said that this College now consists of 95 teaching faculty, 75 non-teaching staff and 2563 students including overseas students on the rolls.

She said that the students of this College have always been great achievers be it in academic and other co-curricular activities. Ms. Ameena Arif, a students of B. Sc. (Biochemistry) gained the top position among all the six faculties, securing the highest percentage of marks, with an aggregate of 89.9% during the last session.

Prof. Bilquees highlighted the achievements of teachers and pointed out that 31 teachers participated in various national and international conferences, workshops and symposia.

On this occasion, Mrs Sheila Dixit, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis and Prof. Zakia Ather Siddiqui, Secretary, female Education Association presented the awards to Aiman Siddiqui, Ilma and Saeeda.

Students presented group songs. Dr. Romana Siddiqui conducted the programme.

MD/MS Entrance test

ALIGARH, Feb 2- A three member Enquiry Committee appointed by the AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis to enquire the conduct of MD/MS/PG Diploma/MDS entrance examination held on January 24, 2010 has submitted its report.



After carefully gone through the report submitted by the Enquiry Committee headed by Professor Mahdi Abbas Rizvi, Dean, Faculty of Engineering .The Committee has identified a number of shortcomings in the conduct of examination and stated that there is some merit in the complaints lodged by the petitioners.



The Vice Chancellor ordered that the said examination be conducted afresh within the shortesr time possible in the best interest of maintain the highest degree of accountability and transparency in conducting entrance examination in AMU.

AMU hosts Open University debate competition

Aligarh: As part of the Republic Day celebrations week, the Mohsinul Mulk Hall Literary & Cultural Society on "Is demand for creation of new states a necessity or political gimmick?" at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organized an Open University debate competition recently.

Three prizes in each of the three languages i.e. Urdu, Hindi and English were given to the winners.

In Urdu, the first prize was bagged by Mr. Mohd. Asif of S.S. Hall (North) while the second prize was given to Mr. Md. Aslam of S.S. Hall (South) and the third went to Mr. Md. Saqib of M.M. Hall.

In Hindi Mr. Mukesh Kumar of M.M. Hall, Perveen Kumar of V.M. Hall and Harish Kumar of N.R.S.C. won the first, second and third prizes respectively.

In English, the first prize was awarded to Mr. Shafey Anwarul Haque of Sir Ziauddin Hall, second prize to Mr. Nadir Ayubi of Hadi Hasan Hall and third to Mr. Mohd. Naiyar Rehman of N.R.S.C.

The programme was presided over by Dr. Shakeel Samdani, Coordinator, General Education Centre who presented an analysis of the topic in his presidential address.

The esteemed judges of the debate were Prof. Mohammad Aleem and Dr. Mohammad IIyas for Hindi, Mr. Mohammad Ayub from Urdu and Dr. Rashid Nehal and Dr. Syed Faiz Zaidi from English.

Speaking on the occasion the chief guest and AMU Registrar, Prof. V.K. Abdul Jaleel dwelt at length about the plans and programme for the all round development of the university.

He also emphasized the need of speech and debate competitions for the proper grooming of students personality.

Prof. Jaleel appreciated the efforts of Provost, Dr. Suhail Sabir to make M.M. Hall a hub of Literary & Cultural activities and to create a campus culture in the hall characterized by decency and discipline.

Prof. Ainul Haque Khan took a journey down the memory lane and became nostalgic while describing his association with M.M. Hall as a resident member in mid sixties.

He assured all possible help to the students from his office while addressing the students.

Earlier, Dr. Suhail Sabir, Provost M.M. Hall accorded a formal welcome to the distinguished guests.

In his welcome speech, Dr. Suhail Sabir presented a detailed report of literary activities in the hall.

Prof. V.K. Abdul Jaleel distributed the prizes to the winners and Prof. Ainul Haque Khan gave away certificates of merit to the students who got prizes.

Mr. Arshian Ansari and Mr. Ashyam conducted the proceedings. Dr. M. Shamim, President, Literary and Cultural Society proposed the vote of thanks.

ZHCET students bring laurels to the University

BTECH Electronics final year students Abdullah Azhar Ali Khan & Kamal Kumar Gupta have made the University proud by winning second prize in the prestigious national level competition ‘ENGINEER ∞’, which was a part of the International Exhibition of Electrical and Industrial Electronics (ELECRAMA-2010) held in Mumbai from 20-24 January 2010.

ELECRAMA is the world’s largest electrical & electronics exhibition organized by Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers Association (IEEMA). The exhibition was attended by delegates from over 40 countries.

The competition received over 428 entries from 198 institutions from 22 states of India which included 15 entries from IITs and 25 entries from NITs. At the first stage, about 50 projects were short listed. Finally all the short-listed teams were asked to demonstrate their project during ELECRAMA-2010. After 4 days of hectic demonstration by the students in front of audiences and judges, the project from our college was selected as Second Best Project and received prize money of Rs. 1.00 Lakh.

Abdullah Azhar Ali Khan & Kamal Kumar Gupta, under the supervision of Prof. Ekram Khan of Electronics Engineering Department, developed a GSM based Automation System. The project was highly praised by high-profile visitors from the industry, some of which include Mr. S. K. Chaturvedi [Chairman & MD, Powegrid India], Mr. B. A. Chaudhari [Chief Operating Officer, Powerlinks], Mr. Anjan Banerjee [Asst. Vice President & Head of Sales, Marketing & Export, Substation Automation Systems, ABB], Mr. KVV Satya Sekhar [DGM – Projects, HBL].

Election and Meeting of AMU Court

ALIGARH February 1: In the crucial annual meeting of AMU Court eminent theologian and President of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Maulana M. Rabe Nadvi, former India’s Hockey Captain Zafar Iqbal, Prof. A. M. Pathan, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Karnataka, former India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Ishrat Azeez and eminent scientist Dr. Shahid Jameel were elected as members of the Aligarh Muslim University Court, the supreme governing body of the University.

The election of 42 representatives from the six different categories to serve as members on the University Court was announced yesterday night. Seventy six candidates were in fray. Eighty-nine members of the University Court attended the annual meeting of the University Court. Some of the prominent members who attended the meeting were Mr. Mohammad Shafi Quraishi, Chairman, National Minorities’ Commission, Padma Bhushan Mr. Moosa Raza, Prof. R. P. Singh, former Vice Chancellor of Lucknow University, Mr. Naseem Ahmad, ex-Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, noted sociologist Prof. Imtiaz Ahmad, noted educationist Mr. A. R. Sherwani, Mr. Shahnawaz Husain, former Union Minister, Mr. Rashid Alvi, Mr. M. I. Shahnawas, Mr. Shafiqur Rahman Barq, Ms. Kusum Rai and Dr. Monajir Husain (all MPs).

Noted industrialist Mr. Ameer Ahmad, Chairman, Teejan Groups of Industries, Muscat, Oman, Mr. Nadeem A. Tareen, Educationist and Philanthropist, Prof. Syed Khalifatullah, President, Niyamat Science Academy, Chennai, Mr. Ishrat Azeez, former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Basheer Thangal, President, Kerala Muslim Education Association, Ms. Parveen Talha, former Member of Union Public Service Commission, Prof. Zakia A. ALIGARH February 1: Annual Meeting of the Aligarh Muslim University Court, the supreme governing body of the University was held yesterday.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis in his opening remarks informed the house that the project of establishing five centres is in progress and the Government of Kerala, West Bengal and Bihar has agreed to hand over the land to the University free from all encumbrances.

Based on the suggestion of Mr. Rashid Alvi, MP and a letter received from the Chief Minister of Assam, Mr. Tarun Gogoi, the University Court has also resolved to establish AMU Centres at Hyderabad and Assam.

Mr. Moosa Raza, Visitor’s nominee to the University Court suggested to constitute a Special Committee to review the University Act and Statutes. The suggestion received wide support and the house unanimously adopted it.

Mr. M. A. Shahnawas, MP suggested that the election schedule for the post of Chancellor, Pro-chancellor, Honorary Treasurer and six members of the Executive Council be postponed so that the 42 members of the AMU Court to be elected in today’s meeting gets a chance to participate in these elections. It will also uphold the democratic values of the country, he added.

Mr. Naseem Ahmad, former AMU Vice Chancellor, Mr. Khursheed Ahmad Khan, Mr. Khwaja Mohammad Shahid, Prof. Saud Ali Khan and Mr. Syed Shahnawaz Husain, MP and former Union Minister have also favoured the postponement of the election to the top court positions. The Vice Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis also shared the same opinion and ruled that since many of the members elected today will not get a chance to participate in these elections to the highest offices of the University, the election to these offices be postponed to a later date. The ruling was unanimously approved by the house.

The house also resolved to pursue vigorously the case of Minority status pending before the Supreme Court.

The members present in the meeting appreciated the efforts of the Vice Chancellor and unanimously praised the steps taken by him for the modernization and expansion of the University.
