ALIGARH January 4: Two dozen students of different Universities of United States visited the Aligarh Muslim University and met the Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis at Vice Cahncellor’s lodge.

The American students visited the heritage buildings of the University and paid tribute to the founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. The visiting team also interacted with the students and staff of the Department of Urdu and English at Arts Faculty lounge.

In his preseidential remarks in the interactive meet Prof. A. R. Kidwai, Director of Academic Staff College said that AMU is not a dgree awarding institution but a centre of socio-cultural advancement of Muslims of India.

On this occasion Prof. Khursheed Ahmad, Chairman, Department of Urdu and Professor Abul Kalam Qasmi, former Dean, Faculty of Arts also addressed the function.

Felicitate and honour Prof. K.K. Ghauri, and Mr. Fishanur Rehman in Department of Geology



ALIGARH January 4: The Department of Geology, Aligarh Muslim University organized a programme to felicitate and honour Prof. K.K. Ghauri, former faculty member and Mr. Fishanur Rehman, an alumnus of the University, currently based in France. On this occasion, recipients of the merit scholarships, CSIR-UGC/NET- JRF qualified students and the students who have been selected in Geologist examination conducted by UPSC were also honoured. The function was presided over by the Registrar, Prof. V.K. Abdul Jaleel. The DSW, Prof. Ainul Haq.

It was the first visit of the Registrar to the department, who in his address lauded the achievements of the students in various all India Examinations. He also expressed his pleasure that alumni of the department have come forward to offer scholarship to the students. Prof. Abdul Jaleel expressed happiness over the progressed that the Department of Geology had made in the last few years.

The Dean, Students Welfare, Prof. Ainul Haq addressing the students urged the students to take maximum advantage of the facilities available in the department to achieve their goals.

Earlier, the Chairman, Dr. Shadab Khurshid welcomed the guests and reiterated that such types of functions will be organized in future. The donors of the scholarship Prof. K.K. Ghauri and Mr. Fishanur Rehman also spoke on this occasion. The programme was conducted by Dr. Akram Javed, who presented a detailed report of the recipients of the scholarship and student achievers in various All India Examinations. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Syed Ahmad Ali.

Dr. Syed Ziaur Rahman joins University of Western Sydney, Sydney (Australia)

ALIGARH January 4:* Dr. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Assistant Professor, Department
of Pharmacology, JN Medical College has proceeded to the School of Medicine,
University of Western Sydney, Sydney (Australia) to pursue PhD course.

Earlier, the University of Western Sydney has offered Dr. Rahman the
prestigious ‘International Endeavour Award’ for his research work. He will
work under the guidance of Prof. Gerald Muench, a renowned medical scientist
in the field of Alzheimer’s Disease, on a project entitled, “Identification
of anti-inflammatory and neuro-protective agents from the Food and plant
libraries”.

Prof. Mohibullah participated in International Advanced Technology Congress at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) Kuala Lampur, Malaysia

ALIGARH, January 4: Prof. Mohibullah, Chairman, Department of Electrical Engineering, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, AMU Aligarh, participated in International Advanced Technology Congress at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) Kuala Lampur, Malysia and presented his paper on “Wind Energy Generation and Pollution Control”.

India has highest Wind Energy Potentials among other renewable sources and stands fifth in the World. Pollution can be controlled which will contribute to climate change by tapping all its wind energy Potentials in the country and carbon credits can be earned. Several other academic programmes were also discussed in the congress relating to the advanced Technology at length.

Prof. Mohibullah also worked at School of Electrical Engineering for better utilization of coal in MHD process and reduction in pollution. He was awarded Sydney University Post Graduate Award from 1980-1983. He worked as Associat3e Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UPM, Serdang, Malysia and also was on teaching assignment at the Military College, Al-Fateh Univesity, Tripoli, Libya. Dr Mohibullah has attended International Conferences in Austrailia, Malaysia, Libya, China and Japan and chaied technical sessions. He has published more than 70 papers in leading journals of national and international repute.

Professor Mohibullah has been the receipient of visiting Fellowship award of Indian National Science Academy, India.

Fourth Ibn Sina Memorial Lecture

The Fourth Ibn Sina Memorial Lecture 2009 will be held on 11th January 2010 at Library Hall of Ibn Sina Academy, Aligarh. This year Prof. Irfan Habib, an eminent historian, will deliver this lecture on a topic entitled "Civilization & Science in Medieval India". Prof. Jamal Khwaja, Former Dean Faculty of Social Science, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, has very kindly agreed to preside over the function.

Earlier, speakers of this series were Saiyid Hamid (2006), Syed Mushirul Hasan (2007) and Syed Shahid Mehdi (2008). National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), Department of Education, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India, sponsors this memorial lecture.

AMU Felicitated Professor Abul Kalam Qasmi



ALIGARH January 2: The Aligarh Muslim University felicitated one of the illustrious faculty members, Professor Abul Kalam Qasmi, Department of Urdu for awarding India’s top most literary recognition “Sahitya Academy Award” for his Urdu book “Maasir Tanqueedi Rawaiyye”.

Profesor Qasmi has authored a dozen book and 125 research papers so far. He has ben honored with UP and Bihar Urdu Academy Awards, UP Governor’s Literary Award and Iftikhar-e-Meer Award.

The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis in his presidential remarks expressed deep sense of appreciation of the literary accomplishments of Prof. Abul Kalam Qasmi. He urged the faculty members to devote their time with a specific purpose and new wave of enthusiasm be created in AMU for academic excellence and new year will bring a large number of laurels to the University.

ON this occasion, Prof. V. K. Abdul Jaleel, Registrar, Professor Khurshid Ahmad, hairman, Department of Urdu, Prof. Masudul Hasan, former Dean, Faculty of Arts also addressed the felicitation functfion.

Accepting the honour Prof. Abul Kalam Qasmi thaked the Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis for feslicitating him on behalf of the University community. Prof. Parvez Mustajab, Controller of Exams proposed the vote of thanks.

Admissions to M.Phil./Ph.D

A consultative meeting taken by the Vice Chancellor with the Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Dean, Students' Welfare, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Chairman, Department of Economics, at 2.00 p.m. on 30.12.2009 and considered the request made by students of various Faculties to take a lenient and liberal view regarding their admission to Ph.D.

After considering all aspects, it was decided that the list of candidates recommended initially by the respective Board of Studies for admissions to M.Phil./Ph.D. 2009-10, be submitted to the Chairman, CASR for further consideration.

The Chairmen of BOS may send the list and ensure that the list prepared shall be strictly on the basis of merit and Ph.D. admission procedure.

The cases of those candidates who figured in the merit list but were not recommended for one reason or the other also be reviewed by BOS following the procedure set for admission.

The meeting of the CASR will be held as early as possible
