Summer Vacations Declared: Approved by the Academic Council

The Aligarh Muslim University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis, on behalf of the Academic Council, has approved the Summer Vacations for the year 2011 in the University and its maintained institutions including University Schools to be observed from 1st June to 31st July 2011.

The Summer Vacations in the Faculty of Medicine shall be observed in two halves of 38 days each for teaching staff from 17.05.2011 to 23.06.2011 and from 24.06.2011 to 31.07.2011. The summer vacations for MBBS students (Final Prof. Part-II Batch-2007), MBBS (Final Prof. Part-I Batch-2008) and MBBS (II Prof. Batch-2009) will start from 11th June to 30th June while MBBS (I Prof. Batch-2010) will start from 10th July to 31st July.

The summer vacations for the students of BDS First year Batch-2010 and Second year Batch 2009 will start from 12th July to 31st July 2011 while for the students of BDS Third year Batch-2008 the vacations will start from 21st June to 10 July and for BDS Final year Batch 2007, it will start from 1st June to 20th June.

The summer vacations for the Faculty of Unani Medicine will be notified later.

Meeting of the Academic Council held

ALIGARH July 12: As directed by the Executive Council in its meeting held on July 8, the special meeting of the Academic Council held today has reconsidered its draft amendments/ additions in the Statutes today and altered the use of words “Regional Campuses” in the light of Visitor’s approval and replaced it by the term “Centres”.

The Executive Council in its last meeting considered the draft amendments/ additions in the Statutes 6A, 8A, 18, 27, 29(2)(b), 35 and 36 of the Statutes of the University under Section 28 of the Act XL of 1920 submitted by the Academic Council and observed that since the Visitor while approving the AMU proposal to establish two Centres under Sub-section (2) of Section 12 of the University Act has used the term “Centres” the University for all its practical purposes should use the same term.

In view of the observation of the EC, the matter was brought back to the Academic Council and the change of terminology was unanimously approved.

The Academic Council also considered the change of words “Salaried Offices” under Statute 6 A(2) to “Salaried Employee”. But the members felt that there is no need of any change as the University has statutory provision to appoint officers.

The second item on agenda “to consider the request of some members of the Academic Council for admission of children of the University employees in schools upto +2 level maintained by the University” has evoked a lot of discussion. Professor Emeritus Irfan Habib, Prof. Saud Ali Khan, Prof. Saud Alam Qasmi, Prof. Razaullah Khan, Prof. Jawaid Akhtar, Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Prof. Najam Khalique, Prof. Mohd. Idrees, Prof. Mohammad Shabbir and many other members spoke on the subject and the meeting arrived at the conclusion that the issue required deeper examination. It also required statistical data and one should look into the backdrop of various factors including pending case in the Supreme Court relating to minority status and admission policy. The house authorized the Vice Chancellor to constitute a committee of the Academic Council to examine the matter and submit a detail report to the Academic Council for consideration and action.

The Academic Council has approved the opening of three Sections of PCB, PCM and Commerce (one each) with an intake of 60 students in both the senior secondary schools separately from the session 2010-11 under self-financing scheme.

The admission will be made on the basis of Admission Test for admission to Class XI for the session 2010-11. A nomination of 20% will be made by the Vice Chancellor at his sole discretion. The fee prescribed under this scheme will be Rs. 12,000/- per annum plus usual admission charges.

A Special meeting of academic council held at AMU

ALIGARH June 9: A special meeting of the Academic Council today approved the recommendations of the Board of Studies of the Department of Law and Department of Business Administration respectively for starting BALLB and MBA courses at the Centres of Murshidabad (West Bengal) and Malappuram (Kerala) for the Session 2010-2011.





The University stands committed to provide the required facilities to launch the above programmes. The University is closely in contact with the governments of Kerala and West Bengal to create the required infrastructure so that teaching be started in a best performing way.

AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis appealed to all the members of the Academic Council to submit proposals regarding academic courses so that the proposals are forwarded to the consultant engaged by the University to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

The Academic Council also approved the teaching and administrative posts and other infrastructure for running special centres at Murshidabad and Malappuram.

The University Academic Council has also approved the proposal for creating a “Directorate of Schools” from the Session 2010-2011.
